Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside company that operates that service. The provider processes the request under its own rules and supplies any result. We do not keep a local log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email may be retained long enough to review and answer it. Messages remain within the organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, ordinary server and analytics records may capture technical details about the visit:
- Page-view times and the pages opened
- Browser name and version
- Device type and operating system
- Internet Protocol address
- Time spent on visited pages
- The referring website, when one is supplied
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help analytics services combine traffic patterns, such as popular pages and exit points. A browser can reject or remove cookies, although some website functions may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a search request to the selected partner
- Maintaining website speed and availability
- Finding and correcting technical failures
- Measuring which resources visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Pickens County Criminal History does not build, keep, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It explains how to reach the Pickens County Sheriff's Office, the local courts, ALEA CJIS, and the Alabama Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not compiled into a consumer report or a file about another person, and this website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Independent companies power the search boxes. A partner's privacy policy governs information submitted to its tool, including retention and sharing. Review that policy before sending a query because those practices are outside our control.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to sheriff pages, Alabama court systems, state agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this website, the destination's privacy terms apply. Those terms should be read before personal information is provided.
Advertising companies may use their own technology to recognize activity across websites and select ads. That processing occurs on the advertiser's systems.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
- Search partners processing a query submitted to them
- Advertising networks serving content on the pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for collected data. No internet system is completely secure, so absolute protection from unauthorized access cannot be guaranteed.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. Information identified as belonging to a minor will be removed after a valid request.
Your Data Rights
Applicable law may provide rights concerning personal data. Alabama's Open Records Act, Ala. Code §36-12-40, governs access to public writings rather than data held by this private site. Ala. Code §41-9-601 separately restricts false-pretense acquisition and unauthorized communication of criminal-history information. Subject to the law that applies, a visitor may:
- Request access to personal information held about them
- Ask that inaccurate personal information be corrected
- Seek deletion where the governing law permits it
- Object to certain processing when an applicable right exists
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as services or legal duties change. A revised version will appear here with a new effective date.
